What are Insight Engines?
Per the Gartner definition, “Insight engines are systems that apply relevancy methods to discover, describe, organize and analyze content and data. They enable existing or synthesized information to be delivered proactively or interactively to digital workers, customers and others in the context of their business moments.”
Products in this market use connectors to crawl and index content from multiple sources. They index the full range of enterprise content, from unstructured content such as word processor and video files through to structured content, such as spreadsheet files and database records. Various "pipelines" are used to preprocess content according to type, and to derive from it data that can be indexed for query, extraction and use via a range of touchpoints. Insight engines differ from search engines in terms of capabilities that enable richer indexes, more complex queries, elaborated relevancy methods, and multiple touchpoints for the delivery of data (for machines) and information (for people).

- And finally, The Natural Language Processing Service ensures the processing of natural language and thus the understanding of content and company knowledge.
The different services can be combined in any way, allowing business experts to quickly and easily put together complex solutions. The result is a self-updating knowledge database that provides users with a 360-degree view of the relevant information (documents, structured data, etc.) on the queried topic.
In addition, there are Insight Apps. Insight apps are for connecting dots of information to see holistic views of your company data and to open up a whole new perspective to help organizations run their business.
The Insight App Designer allows users to design their own applications without any programming knowledge to be targeted to employees in the respective department. With this ease, the different needs of departments are quickly met by individual search applications and work steps are significantly simplified and shortened.
