Mindbreeze wowed kids at KinderUni OÖ by hands-on activities with artificial intelligence

Released on July 9, 2025

"Discover how artificial intelligence (AI) works" was the motto of the Mindbreeze course at KinderUni OÖ 2025. Together with our experts, Matthias and Robin, the 15 participants, aged 7 to 10, discovered the world of artificial intelligence.

In the first step, Matthias playfully explained AI, using animal photos (such as axolotls and other animals) to illustrate how AI learns – namely, through repetition and memorization. The girls then had a chance to try out for themselves how AI learns by telling Matthias whether or not the picture showed an axolotl.

After that, Robin demonstrated how AI can generate imaginative images with just a few pieces of information. The girls' creative input resulted in imaginative images such as an axolotl on a tree, a blue parrot in a tent, a cat on a flying banana, and a lynx with a camera in front of a big city.

Afterwards, the stage belonged to Bob and Eve, two NAO robots. In short, Matthias explained how the Choregraphe program for controlling the NAOs is structured, and then the girls were allowed to try it out for themselves.

Together with Matthias, they selected cards with different commands (blocks) and combined them into a sequence. Robin transferred this sequence to Choregraphe, and the NAOs immediately followed the sequence (walking, sitting, waving, etc.). At the end of the lesson, Bob and Eve gave a little farewell performance, dancing in sync with the music.

The KinderUni OÖ is an educational project for children and young people in Upper Austria. Every year, in July and August, various institutions in Upper Austria open their doors and invite children and young people to participate in courses and workshops.
